Sometimes, a series needs to add "spice" when it's been on the air and has retained its popularity for over two seasons. Something massive must keep the audience interested, including killing off a fan-favorite character.

"Well, that's stupid," you might say. In some ways, yes, it is. The idea might decrease the show's popularity, but in some cases, it causes a stir, and with the help of social media, views and conversations about the series rise.

For fans of The Unit, when Hector "Hammerhead" Williams was killed in the episode "Five Brothers," it was time to riot via angry internet posts. The popular character, played by Demore Barnes, was loved, so the actor was confused with the show writers' decision to kill him off.

"My first response was one of confusion. I think that's understandable since I don't think any of us saw it coming," he told Movieweb.com during an interview in 2007.

"I was very pleasantly surprised to be hearing that my departure caused such an extreme outcry. Apparently there were a lot of people who were very upset. A couple of weeks ago I was in Vegas at the Planet Hollywood Hotel and Casino opening and there were several red-carpet situations where fans were strewn on either side of the walkway. People were yelling various things, they were being upset. That means I was doing my job."
