There are so many fun and exciting holidays to celebrate throughout the year. When we think of those, we envision days like Easter, the Fourth of July, Christmas, and more. However, there's one holiday that Star Trek fans add to that list. First Contact Day is on April 5, 2025, and Trekkies around the globe are uniting to prepare for one of their favorite days of the year.

According to StarTrek.com, First Contact Day pays tribute to the flight of the warp-capable Phoenix and the pivotal first interaction between humans and Vulcans, which occurred on April 5, 2063.

Historic, right?! That's why it's such a big deal for fans of the legendary sci-fi franchise to celebrate. If this is your first time joining the fun, you probably wonder why April 5 was chosen. It's a pretty simple reason, honestly.

Did you know that the co-writer for Star Trek: First Contact, Ronald D. Moore, revealed to StarTrek.com that April 5 is actually his oldest son's birthday? "The short answer on First Contact Day is that it's my oldest son, Jonathan's birthday. And that's the only reason the date was chosen."

Imagine your dad turning your birthday into an iconic worldwide event. We would mention this to everyone — even those who didn't ask! So, as you prepare for all-day First Contact fun, make sure you also say, "Happy Birthday, Jonathan."
