A-Team creator Stephen J. Cannell called the show ''a very risk-taking series''

Batman wasn’t the only show with these sound effects. The A-Team was packed with explosions, fights, and scenes that would be scary in real life. But when Hannibal, Faceman, B.A. Baracus, and Murdock appear on our television screens in cool disguises to take on the bad guys, it's less frightening and a lot more fun to watch.
Stephen J. Cannell, a co-creator of the show, understood that describing the A-Team’s wild moments could make it sound like a cartoon. That was part of what made the show unique. "We’ve been doing that for three years. I think that’s very funny," he told the Copley News Service in 1985. "And a lot of other people do, too. The show is a fantasy. Nobody should take this show seriously."

Cannell also said that The A-Team was one of the most bizarre series he'd ever created. "It's a very risk-taking series," he added. The success was worth it, though. "All that is ludicrous. On one show, the heavies were getting away in a truck, and the A-Team was in a helicopter, dropping watermelons on the windshields until the truck rolled over."
"I mean, come on! It was a very funny sequence. The show is a comedy. It's satire. It's a fantasy. There are certain cartoon elements in it. The heroes are not real."
