We assumed that the upcoming sequel series Star Trek: Picard would bring back some familiar The Next Generation characters, but somehow we weren't quite prepared for this. On Saturday, the Star Trek Universe panel at San Diego Comic Con dropped a sneak peek of the 2020 CBS All Access show. And, yes, indeed it brought back a certain beloved Chief Operations Officer through the magic of CGI.
But there was also a shocking reveal of a fan-favorite Voyager character.
First, let's deal with the android in the room. Yes, Data is back, though they had to dig the poor guy out of a top drawer like a forgotten pack of batteries.
Don't worry, they put him back together again. At the end of the trailer, Picard plays cards with his old friend.
"I don't want the game to end," he says.
"I can see that captain," Data dryly replies.
Brent Spiner has been de-aged with movie magic to bring the ageless android back to life. As far as Jeri Ryan goes, however, that's just good genes.
"What the hell are you doing out here, Picard," she asks Patrick Stewart. The former Borg drone likely shows up with good reason, as the Borg seems to play a major part as Picard's nemesis in the upcoming series.
Oh, there's more! Though they weren't on hand for the panel discuss, Jonathan Frakes and Marina Sirtis were confirmed to reprise their roles as Riker and Troi in Picard. Beam it into our face now, please.
